December 6th: Guest Speaker Matt Haffner
Matt and his wife met in 1996 and got married in 1997. Matt's daughter was born in 1997 and his sons were born in 2000, 2001, 2003 and lastly a surprise in 2008. About 5 years ago (around 2012) Matt and his family kept getting sick all the time. He started reading about homesteading. Around that time, Matt also found a man selling fresh eggs. Matt and this man became good friends, and proceeded to teach Matt alot about raising chickens for eggs and meat. This year Matt and his family are are on their second batch of pigs - 3 large blacks. Now He and his family have 60 chickens, 3 large blacks, 3 duroc pigs. His family also planted a huge garden this year which included, 100 tomato plants, 40 pepper plants and cucumbers. Matt enjoys canning and canned over 400 quarts jars of food for this winter. Matt enjoys fishing when he can and enjoys making meals from grass fed beef. He has noticed that once he and his family started eating local grass fed antibiotic free local beef; their health has improved and allergies lessened. He has also learned how to make home made breads which the family loves. Matt currently works in the distribution field, and his wife works in the medical field.
